Discernment

Ever since i can remember mom and dad have always been talking to us about discernment and how to discern whether something is right or wrong. 'Course back then it was just lil' stuff like, "Hannah, was that being nice when you didn't share with Damarise?" But now as I'm older and can read the Bible it puts a bigger light on being discerning.
"All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness," -2 Timothy 3:16
All scripture is God-breathed. God is perfect. There is NO sin in Him. So then if scripture is God-breathed it also must be perfect. God's Word is true! To determine between right and wrong we need to study scripture. We need to be like the Bereans...
"Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true."-Acts 17:11
Every day the Bereans would examine the Scriptures to make sure that what they were hearing and being taught was in fact truth! Sunday, some guy was preaching and he said something that did not fit with Scripture anywhere in fact Scripture went against what he had said. And it made me realize how easily it is to just believe what you hear without making sure that it is true. People can say things and have them all wrapped up in beautiful words and looks but that isn't what matters! What matters is that what they are saying agrees with what God's Word says.
"Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world."-1 John 4:1
That verse says it pretty clearly. We need to test, test what people are telling us, test their attitude, their life. And that will help us see whether they are from God. We need to be shrewd as snakes yet innocent as doves as Matthew 10:16 says:
"I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves."- Matthew 10:16
We need to be sharp in what we listen to. We need to test it and make sure that we are hearing the truth. And if it is wrong we should be as gentle as doves in our correction. Anyways, that was a lil' about what i've been thinking about lately...
