10•10•10

Today is October 10th, 2010, or 10•10•10. :)

Pretty neat, eh? I thought so. And, since I'm sitting here writing up a blog post about today's date, I thought I may as well write 10 things I'm thankful for today.

1. I'm thankful for the gorgeous weather! 86ºF in October! Beautiful!

2. I'm thankful for Kathleen Walton. She was my suitemate last year, and was an amazing suitemate! She's back for a wee visit over her Fall Break and it is SO great to reconnect with her :)

3. I'm thankful for God's Word! What a great blessing it is to have and to read!

4. I'm thankful for Covenant College! It is a wonderful school, and I'm so thankful for everything about it.

5. I'm thankful for my family. Even though they are a few states away, they are a huge blessing to me. Whether it's through pray, talking on the phone, commenting on Facebook, or sending snail mail, they are a huge, huge blessing!

6. I'm thankful for Sarah Beth Woodrow! It's her birthday today (how cool is that?! I would love to have my birthday on a date like that :) ). I'm so thankful for her as my older Woodbull sister.

7. I'm thankful for Damarise. :) She's a great roommate, friend, and sister! I'm glad we can experience college life together!

8. I'm thankful for the job God has blessed me with! I love the work, the people I work with, and the times that I work.

9. I'm thankful that Fall Break is six days away. I can't wait to go back to Missouri!

10. I'm thankful for today! Thankful that we can worship God with fellow believers. Thankful for a day of rest. And thankful for this really cool date :)

There we have it. Ten things I'm thankful for on 10•10•10. :) Hope you all enjoy this once in a century date :)

It's like a scene from "I Love Lucy".

I was standing in the kitchen Tuesday evening. Mom had left for New York earlier that morning. This meant that Damarise and I were now in charge of Mom's stuff, ie. starting the dishwasher, doing laundry, cooking meals, etc. I had just finished the dishes from dinner and realized that the dishwasher needed to be started. So, I poured in the dish soap, closed up the dishwasher, and pressed start.

Next thing I know, Andrew is in my room saying, "Hannah, I think you should come down to the kitchen and see something." The picture on the left is the scene I saw, only, imagine more suds. They were pouring out of everywhere. I could not believe it! Andrew and I quickly got the suds mopped up and then placed a bucket under the dishwasher to catch the rest of the suds. I had a Bible Study that night, so I didn't stick around to see how the dishwasher did. Andrew was a dear and cleaned up the mess from the dishwasher while I was gone. He ended up bailing out soap suds from the dishwasher because the bucket that we placed under the dishwasher was filling up to fast. He was a huge helper :)

Fast forward to the following day. Damarise did dishes that night and she started the dishwasher. From what she told me, we both did the exact same thing, but when she started the dishwasher it ran fine. No soapy suds came gushing out of the machine. I began to wonder what I possibly could have done wrong.

Friday afternoon the dishwasher was full yet again, and Andrew and I were the only ones home. So, I braved starting the dishwasher. I filled it up, shut it, and pressed the start button. Within minutes we were back to what happened Tuesday evening. The tile floor was beginning to look like a snow covered floor and this time the suds would not stop. Andrew was once again a huge helper and swept the floor for me that way I could mop the floor with all the suds pouring out. It worked well. Eventually the dishwasher went to dry mode which made Andrew and me rejoice!

Saturday night, Mom was back home. This time she started the dishwasher. Dad told me that I should watch her to see what I was doing wrong. So I watched. Maybe you dishwasher experts have already guessed what I was doing wrong, or noticed what I did wrong in the first paragraph, but for those of you still guessing....

I watched Mom grab a box full of detergent. Wait, wait, wait! A box?! I quickly asked, "Is this the stuff you always use?" She of course replied yes and then asked me what I was using. I grabbed out a bottle of, what I thought, was dishwasher soap. Unfortunately, the bottle only read dish soap. Yes, I'd been using dish soap in the dishwasher, which apparently creates LOADS of soapy suds.

So, for all, or any, of you who ever thought running a dishwasher with normal dish soap would be okay, I'm here to tell you, from experience, that it doesn't quite work. You'll end up with something that, as Dad said, "Looks like a scene from 'I Love Lucy'."

That's the President!

It all started Thursday morning. We went out to breakfast with Grandma and before we left I was looking at the newspaper and saw the President Obama was going to be in Kansas City. Well, how often is it that you can see a president, right? I figured that seeing him would probably not happen, but Airforce One was going to be kept at the airport and I've always wanted to see that :) So, after breakfast we drove over to the airport.

Damarise was our WONDERFUL driver :) Even through the rain.

We got to the airport and did not see Airforce One. All we saw was this big gray plane.
BIG gray plane off in the distance.

About 10 minutes after we left the airport we found out that Airforce One had landed. We were pretty bummed to miss out on that, but we knew that we would be close by the airport for a Bible study later that afternoon. So, we planned to swing by the airport after the Bible study to see if we could catch a glimpse of Airforce One.

Mom took over driving :)

We were on our way onto the highway heading to the airport when we realized that the entire road headed towards the airport was empty. So, we slowed down and looked behind us. What did we see?? First we saw two motorcycles with flashing lights.
The first of the motorcade.

Then we looked back and saw the President's motorcade!! That is one thing that I have always wanted to see and seriously never thought I would see. It was amazing!
It's all the cars at the end of the road!

There were over a dozen vehicles in the motorcade. The president was towards the front and then there were suburbans, vans, armored cars–all filled with secret service. It was... amazing!
The black limo in the front may be the President, but I think Mom said it's the second one.

We then decided to continue on to the airport to see Airforce One and we saw it taking off.
Airforce One! SOOO NEAT!

Yes! It was neat!
Damarise :)

AH! We were SO excited!
Me and Sarah

And away went Airforce One.
I think Airforce One is in the clouds somewhere.

On our way home still couldn't believe everything we had just seen! :D SO COOL!
Damarise, Me, and Sarah :)

After getting home, Damarise and I were talking about everything we had just seen. We saw the president and we were excited, how much more exciting will it be when Jesus comes back?! Oh! How exciting! He will come with a "motorcade" that will be a LOT more astounding and just His presence will be so great that joy seems like an inadequate word to describe it.

Come Lord Jesus, Come!
