Goodbye, Tooth Daddy.

I had read books from the library about the tooth fairy when I was little. But I knew that just like Santa Claus and the Easter bunny, the tooth fairy didn't exist. And even though I knew the tooth fairy didn't exist I thought it would be nice if I got something for losing a tooth. I mean, hey, losing a tooth isn't all fun and games. Oh no! I remember the first molar that I lost. It was hanging on by a thread for over a day. I wriggled it, pulled it, plucked it, and it wouldn't budge that last millimeter. But when it finally fell out, I was overjoyed! And by this time, the time when I started losing molars, I knew for certain that I would get a reward for all that hard work.

You see, we had the Tooth Daddy growing up. For those of you who don't understand, the Tooth Daddy was Dad. I didn't realize this for the first two teeth that I lost, but after telling Damarise that I had a hunch that Dad was the Tooth Daddy and after having her laugh at my slow realization of this fact, I knew for certain that Dad was the Tooth Daddy (and felt slightly embarrassed for having ever wondered otherwise).

When I lost my first tooth I stuck that tooth in a Ziploc bag under my pillow. In the morning I had a quarter (or maybe a dollar... I can't remember) and a note from the Tooth Daddy. The money was great, but the notes were the best! They always had a fun drawing depicting the exciting circumstances surrounding the tooth falling out. And with the drawing was always a sweet note. Sometimes encouraging the bravery displayed while suffering through the loose tooth, a reminder to take care of the pearly whites God had blessed me with, and always a reminder of how loved I was by Dad.

I have all those notes in a bucket somewhere. But I think one of my favourite notes from the Tooth Daddy was one that was made on the run. I don't remember how old I was, but we were still living in Arkansas at the time. I had lost my tooth late at night and knew that Dad was leaving early in the morning (before the sun would even be thinking about rising) to go to a Chemistry conference. At this point I knew who the Tooth Daddy was and knowing that Dad was leaving for his conference I knew there'd be no note in the morning when I woke up. But even knowing that, I still stuck my tooth under my pillow. I woke up early the next morning a little disappointed, knowing that when I reached under my pillow my tooth would still be there. I debated about not even feeling under there, but decided I may as well. Instead of pulling out the tooth like I expected, I pulled out a short note saying that the Tooth Daddy was very busy but he would never ever forget about leaving a note and money for a tooth. He told me how much he loved me and that he was sorry the note was short. I could've cared less about how short the note was. All that mattered was that he remembered, even in the busyness of him leaving for his trip. I was overjoyed!

And that is why when Dad sent a letter to all of us kids via email announcing the retirement of the Tooth Daddy on February 23rd, I may have teared up. At the top of the note was a drawing just like the ones drawn in our letters. The rest of the note told us that the Tooth Daddy was retiring due to no more teeth falling out. It was a precious, funny letter just like all the other letters from the Tooth Daddy. And it reminded me just how grateful I am for Dad. Getting a letter from Dad after losing a tooth was one of the most exciting things. It was exciting to get money, look at the fun picture, and read what Dad had to say. But looking back on it now, it showed just how much Dad cared about every little detail of our lives. And for that, I'm thankful. Getting the Tooth Daddy retirement letter this week was just a little reminder of how blessed I am to have Dad as my dad.

The Tooth Daddy era is over and I just want to thank Dad for the wonderful Tooth Daddy he made. I love you, Dad! Thanks for caring about our lives... even in the tiny things like losing a tooth.

Happy 23rd Anniversary!

Today marks Mom and Dad's 23rd Anniversary! Wow! :D Happy happy Anniversary!

I am SO thankful to God for the wonderful parents He has blessed me with!

They gave up everything they had, a job, a home, etc. to follow the Lord with all their hearts, souls, and minds. And I am so thankful for that.

They are funny and have a great sense of humor that I love!

:)

I'm thankful for their enthusiasm in everything they do. Wether it be homeschooling us kids, training us, learning a new language, sharing the gospel.... or just a road trip :)

I'm thankful for their sense of adventure :) Some of the best *or worst* memories I have have been from something adventurous :)

I'm thankful that they love and appreciate eachother.

I love how they follow God's calling every step of the way.

And I'm SO very thankful for everything they have done for me. Thank you Mom and Dad for being a wonderful example to me of following God no matter what the cost. Thank you for teaching me God's truth and living it out for me to see. Thank you for homeschooling me and for raising me up to be who I am now. :) Thank you for everything you guys do! You guys are the best parents ever! There is NO doubt about that!

I love you both very much! Happy 23rd Anniversary!

Trip out West: Lake Tahoe (Day 2)

Tuesday, Day 2 in Lake Tahoe.

Since Uncle Don and Aunt Penny were taking Ian and Andrew out for the morning, Mom and Dad decided they'd take us girls out for the day. Well, Sarah was busy doing other stuff (like drawing! I really need to post some of the pictures she has drawn! She is AMAZING!) Since she was busy being an artist she didn't wanna come, but Damarise and I went :)

We crossed the California Sate Line :D Yahoo!

And went to visit a historic site with a bunch of old houses.

I love how they used logs to write out the sign :)

In we went.

This was the only house that we could go into.

Wow! What a beautiful piano!!

I looove the floor in the kitchen :)

And the sink, look at that fun curvy divider!

Ah! I got my fingers stuck! ( this really happened to Damarise when we were in the NTM training and we had these ringers to do laundry. Ouch!)

Damarise and Smokey Bear.

Dad got to shake hands with Mr. Baldwin!

Oh! It was SO exciting!

Dad! Don't do it! ;)

A tree with a face.

"Welcome to the gardens of... well... the gardens!"

It was a lovely garden!

Damarise, another great picture, sis!

Feeling patriotic?

I love the design on the roof of this house!

Blacksmith's

Then I decided to go off driving....

Oh whoops! That's right, I can't drive without an adult... so in hopped Mom and Dad... You'd think, by the look on their faces, that I'm not a very good driver. ;)

Out hopped Mom, guess it was too tense for her, and Dad decided to wash the windshield, while Damarise joined me in cruisin' the town ;)

The cool old gas pump.

A cool old car.

After visiting the historic site we went to visit Booster Juice! :D

Ruth introduced us to Booster Juice when we were with her, and when we saw it in Lake Tahoe, we just has to get some juice :) Mmmm Damarise got Pomegranate Passion and I got Mango Hurricane. Yummy!

Mom also got some... I can't remember what she got. :P

After lunch we went to an art gallery. This art gallery had the art of Dr. Seuss! How cool! I love Dr. Seuss books! All the rhymes, the fun pictures, and just the crazy imagination he had. So, it was cool to see some of Dr. Suess' drawings and sculptures. Although, there weren't as many as I thought there would be.

While in the art gallery we looked at paintings by Rob Gonsalves. His paintings were SO cool to look at! It was like an optical illusion. :)

After visiting a few more places we headed back home.

Thanks Mom and Dad for the fun day! :D

Fishpond

Dad and Mom did the Bible study at a kid's camp on Friday. Dad did a great job sharing about being content no matter what the circumstances and how we are missionaries wether we are near or far.

Happy Birthday Dad!

Friday, the 19th, was Dad's birthday! He wasn't here though to celebrate it. (We've now missed his birthday two times in a row! Last year he was in Missouri.) Anyways, we celebrated it yesterday. :)

The birthday boy. With his new shirt from Ouma and Oupa and his new glasses :D Cool!

Reading cards.

Oooo some of the presents.

Pants.

Hehe, a fan, that he said he probably won't use :P

Awwww... a thank you kiss.

Dad and his icecream cake! YUM!

Yah, YUM! :D

That night we played Rook :) haha... it was a FUN game of Rook :)

Hehe, trying to decide if they should bid high and bring someone down in the hole with them...

Sarah's hoping it won't be her!

Me too!

It was a fun time getting to celebrate Dad being in our family! I am so thankful for the Dad that God has blessed me with! He his fun, funny, can always make us laugh. He is loving, caring and wise. He teaches us from God's Word and helps us grow more in our understanding of Him. And he is an amazing example of someone who has put all their faith in God. Dad has given up a great tenured job, left everything we every knew, and followed God everywhere He has led. It is so neat to see that in Dad's life. Dad prays and trusts that God will lead us each step of the way and it is amazing to see that kind of faith. Thank you Dad for being a wonderful Dad to me and an example of someone I want to be someday. I love you so much! Happy birthday!
